Sodium

Why VitalPlate watches sodium, and which plans set limits on it.

Last reviewed

Sodium (the main part of salt) affects blood pressure and how much fluid your body holds. It’s one of the most common things VitalPlate flags, because so much of it is hidden in packaged and restaurant food.

Plans that set sodium limits include heart or blood pressure, high blood pressure, and kidney (CKD). A CKD plan, for example, flags a serving over its per-serving limit and tracks a daily sodium ceiling. General heart-health guidance often aims well under ~1,500 mg a day.

Your exact limits depend on the conditions in your profile. VitalPlate doesn’t set a goal for you — it reflects the plan you chose.
