Potassium

Why potassium matters in kidney disease and when VitalPlate limits it.

Last reviewed

Potassium is an essential mineral, but in kidney disease (CKD) the body can have trouble clearing the excess, so intake sometimes needs to be limited. VitalPlate watches potassium mainly for CKD plans, where it flags high-potassium servings and tracks a daily ceiling (around 2,000 mg is commonly used).

Potassium needs are very individual in kidney disease — some people need less, some don’t restrict it at all. Always follow your own care team’s target.
